This week we focus on water … the water crisis in Palestine. As most of us know, Israel has expropriated most of Palestine's water resources for the benefit of its Jewish population, including settlers in the West Bank, feeding their households, swimming pools, lawns, and other whims. A tiny fraction is still allowed for Palestinians. We have as our guest Nidal Al-Azraq, Executive Director of the organization 1for3. 1for3 works year-around to develop models for the preservation and sustainable use of the water still allowed to Palestinians.

Nidal grew up in the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, but currently lives here in the Boston area with his wife and 2 children. We sat down with Nidal to talk about his work here and in the Aida Refugee Camp.

Please consider joining us at the Walk for Water sponsored by 1for3, which aims to raise money for these very important projects in the West Bank that Nidal has been talking about. The Walk is May 4th in Cambridge. To get information and to register for the Walk, browse to 1for3.org. You can do something to mitigate the water crisis in Palestine by joining the Walk for Water.

Before we go, we take a look at Israel's latest military assault on Gaza, which took place in mid-March. Israel again overreacted to rather harmless rockets that they claimed were fired by Hamas, although Hamas has denied it. This is the latest in a long list of bombardments that Israel has rained on Gaza in the last several years. We play a response that puts the issue in perspective by Ali Abunimah of the Electronic Intifada, speaking on Al-Jazeera.
Begun in 2004, This Week In Palestine (a weekly 8am feature of Truth and Justice Radio (TJR) is an award-winning 45-minute (or more) segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them. TJR is aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, also streamed live and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's modest website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine archives back thru 1-6-2008; editions are also accessible at radio4all.net. TJR sometimes airs Palestine coverage IN ADDITION to that provided by This Week In Palestine. We hope you'll write to us at tjradio@fastmail.com if you rebroadcast our work, or have questions or comments. Stay tuned!
