Kizito was a devout Christian and world-recognized composer/singer. He ran afoul of the Rwandan leadership when he composed and performed a song calling for true reconciliation, recognizing the suffering of all the country's ethnic groups. He was imprisoned, and authorities tried to force him to accuse others.
Recently, he wished to leave the country. He was taken again into custody, where he died a "suicide," say the police (without troubling with an autopsy or investigation). There is widespread anger, and observers note that the population is shedding its fear.
