A recent report looks at the experiences of those on welfare in BC and helps expose the connections between poverty, welfare policies and "crime".

Crime prevention. That term often brings to mind images of car alarms, more policing and anti-gang task forces. But a new report provides an opportunity to look at crime prevention from a different angle.
Living on Welfare in BC: Experiences of Longer-Term "Expected to Work" Recipients followed more than 60 people over the span of two years.
The report reveals more about the reality of those living on welfare and sheds light on some of the connections between current welfare policies and illegal activities that people engage in to survive.
The report is published by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and the Raise the Rates Coalition.
Stark Raven interviews Seth Klein about the report and how it can help us look at crime prevention from a different perspective. Seth is the BC director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, and co- author of the report.
