IN 2005, NEW YORK UNIVERSITY BANNED THE SALES OF COKE PRODUCTS ON CAMPUS CITING THE COMPANY’S SUSPECTED LINK TO THE ASSASSINATIONS OF EIGHT LABOR UNION LEADERS IN COLUMBIA AND OTHER HUMAN RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLATIONS IN AFRICA AND INDIA.
FIFTY U.S. UNIVERSITIES FOLLOWED THE LEAD WITH SIMILAR ACTIONS.
WHILE STILL REFUSING TO ALLOW AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION INTO ITS ROLE IN THE KILLINGS, COCA COLA, HAS BEEN PRESSURING NYU TO LIFT THE BAN ON ITS PRODUCTS. LAST WEDNESDAY, ON THE DAY PRECEDING A VOTE OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL, WBAI FRED NGUYEN JOINED TWO HUNDRED STUDENTS ACTIVISTS AT A RALLY SPONSORED BY THIRTEEN STUDENT, LABOR AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS ENTITLED: “DYING FOR A COKE?
