In war, civilian women suffer in some unique ways. In Congo, gang-rape followed by mutilation of women has become an effective Psy-Ops strategy of the warring armies and militias. Iraqi women have lost many freedoms since 2003. Furthermore, grinding poverty has forced many women into prostitution--leading to social ostracism, and often summary execution. Lisa F. Jackson and Ynar Mohammed explain.
