In war, civilian women suffer in some unique ways. In Congo, gang-rape followed by mutilation of women has become an effective Psy-Ops strategy of the warring armies and militias. Iraqi women have lost many freedoms since 2003. Furthermore, grinding poverty has forced many women into prostitution--leading to social ostracism, and often summary execution. Lisa F. Jackson and Ynar Mohammed explain.
Thanks to Mike McCormick & "Mind Over Matters" (Jackson] and to democracynow.org [Mohammed], for recorded audio. Produced for WWUH-FM, a community service of the University of Hartford, West Hartford, CT. Feedback to kdowst at hotmail dot com.
