The first hour Moriah Fey and Rossi Polanco of the Survivors Healing Center discussed the program at the Survivors Healing Center (SHC), non-profit organization, which has been serving Santa Cruz County since l987. They discussed the services offered for survivors of sexual abuse and their allies; education, information, referrals, quality services, and support. Their primary goals are to empower those victimized by sexual abuse through a healing process and to prevent sexual abuse of children and youth.
In the second hour Caleb Lawrence, Registered Investment Broker, talked about the investment industry. He discussed the factors that contributed to the economic collapse from an insiders perspective; deregulation, the loss of loan underwriting standards, origination to syndacate flim flam accounting and toxic assets. He shared why the true cause of the economic meltdown is due to a credit bust induced recession and is vastly different from previous depressions and why this is not a good time to purchase a home. Lastly he discussed where we can go from here.
In the third hour award-winning investigative reporter Russ Baker, discussed the reasons why he wrote the book. He then explored the connections between the Bush family and the intelligence community. Baker discovered while writing "Family of Secrets", that George H.W. Bush's connection with the CIA began in 1953, as opposed to Bush's "official" joining of the organization in 1976. He unearthed information alleging that Bush was involved in the JFK assasination and Watergate. Baker emphasized that they were merely part of a larger agenda influenced by powerful elites who have been controlling world events to fit their agenda. Stressing that the Bush family are merely players in this group of power brokers, Baker said, "they're not the guys running the thing." He does not subscribe to a conspiracy theory. He believes that the Bush family works with a collection of like-minded, powerful people working together to enhance their power. "You're talking about a mindset." Ultimately, he expressed concern that this intelligence community, military, corporate and governmental alliance continues to exert its power. He suggests that we are living in a very sensitive and fragile situation that is self perpetuating and on-going.
He suggested that the Watergate scandal was one historic event that this alliance, including George H.W. Bush played a role in creating. Baker suggested that Richard Nixon was put into power by these elites, and had begun to move away from their control. The Watergate event was developed as a means to force Nixon out of office and avoid another assasination. According to Baker, this explains why the break-in seemed so poorly done. "When you're in these permanent bureaucracies, you don't have a lot of use for these elected presidents." He ended the hour, by discussing the importance of seeking out truth in history and accurate reporting of events. Baker emphasized the importance of alternative media and the internet as sources of information and investigative reporting.
