This is a 64 kbs version of a weekly program airing on KSOW 106.7 FM in Cottage Grove, OR. as part of the stations commitment to sustaining the tradition great radio theater. I will post a new show by Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. There is also a 128 bit version.
In the main, each episode consists of four approximately 30-minute long programs (not always, as sometimes I use a longer form show, so it may be 3 or fewer) and some filler to bring them in at 120 minutes. .
Broadcast Advisories
Use these programs in any way that suits you, commercial, non-commercial (well,don't sell it). Use them on your low power FM station or your AM station. Stream it on your internet station or stream. Whatever. Edit them if you want to, however you want to! I'm easy. In a few cases commercials have been left in but in those cases there is disclaimer stating that they are there for "historical perspective" only. I have edited out any underwriter spots that once existed. There is no comment about run times ( i.e. "It's Sunday night at 10 pm and this is Night Transmissions.") Also I have edited out any mention of the town I live in. In other words I have endeavored to make make these programs as "Evergreen" and global as possible. I would even consider making (at some point) shows that are tailored to some degree for specific locations. In most cases the mp3 file runs a little longer than 120 minutes. However, in all cases the main show comes in at under 120 minutes; anything in excess of 120 minutes is just music that can safely be faded out.
As of show 21 there are 30 second musical interludes at 30,60 and 90 minutes. with the last 5 to 10 minutes or so of the show uninterrupted music that can be faded out on without too much ado, Exact times will be in the mp3 comment tag

Segment One:
Is an episode of the South African series Beyond Midnight from sometime in 1968; I don't know the exact date . This episode, "The Signal-Man" is based on a short story of the same name by Charles Dickens in which a Signal-Man who works on a lonely stretch of track is haunted by a sinister specter. In Dickens' original story the man who becomes the Signal-Man's confidant is never identified. However, in the Beyond Midnight dramatization he is Charles Dickens himself. This is a narrative choice that might give you the idea that this is a true story. It isn't. It is the case that Charles Dickens wrote the story in 1885, twenty years after surviving, in 1865, The Staplehurst Railcrash . It may be that this incident was the inspiration for the story. The story itself was originally published as part of the "Mugby Junction" collection in the 1866 Christmas edition of the British literary magazine, All the Year Round. Segment Two: Is "Nobody Died",one of Arch Obler's stories from the classic Lights Out series. Wikipedia says... "The elixir of life" is also known as the elixir of immortality or Dancing Water, it is sometimes equated with the philosopher's stone and is a legendary potion, or drink, that grants the drinker eternal life or eternal youth. It is related to the myths of Enoch, Thoth, and Hermes Trismegistus, all of whom in various tales are said to have drunk "the white drops". Of course, in the hands of our friend, the inimitable Mr. O you have to expect a twist. So, grab your Dramamine and get ready for a quick, tight turn into irony. Now, just to mind my pints and quarts and dates... I should say that this story first aired on December the 9th of 1936. Segment Three: The CBS Radio Mystery Theater really did herald the revival of the Golden Age of Radio. With the fine actor E. G. Marshall as the host, the series brought back those great days of mystery, suspense, drama and from time to time a touch of history, and just occasionally... Future History. As it did on November 11, 1979 with an episode entitled, "Strange New Tomorrow". The story feels a little strange (to me at least). It seems like a bit of an anachronism, out of its own time. More like something you would expect of the 1950s than the 1980s (well, almost the 1980s). Nonetheless, I confess a certain affection for this effort. Unlike most presentations of Night Transmissions this is not a 30 minute show but a 60 minute show. Or rather, a show that was originally intended to inhabit a 60 minute spot. After eliminating all the extraneous materials we come down closer to a 45 minute run time. Which explains the absence this time of a segment four.
