This is a 64 kbs version of a weekly program airing on KSOW 106.7 FM in Cottage Grove, OR. as part of the stations commitment to sustaining the tradition great radio theater. I will post a new show by Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. There is also a 128 bit version.
In the main, each episode consists of four approximately 30-minute long programs (not always, as sometimes I use a longer form show, so it may be 3 or fewer) and some filler to bring them in at 120 minutes. .
Broadcast Advisories
Use these programs in any way that suits you, commercial, non-commercial (well,don't sell it). Use them on your low power FM station or your AM station. Stream it on your internet station or stream. Whatever. Edit them if you want to, however you want to! I'm easy. In a few cases commercials have been left in but in those cases there is disclaimer stating that they are there for "historical perspective" only. I have edited out any underwriter spots that once existed. There is no comment about run times ( i.e. "It's Sunday night at 10 pm and this is Night Transmissions.") Also I have edited out any mention of the town I live in. In other words I have endeavored to make make these programs as "Evergreen" and global as possible. I would even consider making (at some point) shows that are tailored to some degree for specific locations. In most cases the mp3 file runs a little longer than 120 minutes. However, in all cases the main show comes in at under 120 minutes; anything in excess of 120 minutes is just music that can safely be faded out.
As of show 21 there are 30 second musical interludes at 30,60 and 90 minutes. with the last 5 to 10 minutes or so of the show uninterrupted music that can be faded out on without too much ado, Exact times will be in the mp3 comment tag

This episode contains the following segments...
Segment One: Is from a series that aired in the early 1950s (1953), Stand By for Crime. This program follows the spare narrative style made popular by such true crimes series as Gangbusters, Mr. District Attorney and of course Dragnet. This is not to say that this is a true crime drama .It is not. This series is entirely fictional. In this show a reporter who works for a Los Angeles radio station, Chuck Morgan, who with the help of lieutenant of police Bill Miggs and "gal Friday " Carol Curtis, every week tracks down and exposes evildoers of all sorts. Beginning with, in this the first episode of the series " The Communist Menace". This show and series is from that time in our recent history when the American people went in fear of what many people took to be the real and ever present danger of an American fifth column comprised of Communists. Communist in our labor unions, Communist in our universities, Communist in our media, Communist in our government. Communists under our beds. Some of the more extreme anti-Communist activists (Robert Welsh ,founder of the John Birch Society, for instance) actually believed that Pres. Eisenhower was a willing dupe of the Communist powers. As crazy as this sounds to most of us, I'm not sure we've gone so very far away from this kind of paranoia today. Also during this segment, we have one of Ellery Queen's Minute Mysteries , "Suspicious Prints". Segment Two: Is an episode of The Clock from April the 6th of 1947, "The Man With the Strange Trunk". The Clock ran between November 3rd of 1946 and May 23rd of 1948 for a total of 78 shows. This was an Australian program imported into the United States by the American broadcasting Company. It is remarkable that this series doesn't sound particularly Australian. The performers have what sounds like a fairly generic American accent. And it'is perhaps of some minor interest that of the 78 shows produced only 65 were actually of Australian origin. The rest being produced in America by American crews. This particular episode deals with the arrival at a small Death Valley Hotel of a man with a sturdy, oversized, heavily secured, and quite heavy trunk. The man who possesses the trunk is, of course, notable in his closed mouth, suspicious and generally disagreeable nature. Then as the couple who run the Hotel make the mistake of listening to radio reports of nefarious going on's in a near-by town grow suspicious or thier guest . Well, as you can imagine, things only get more and more dicey. Also, to round off this 30 minute segment, we have an episode from, Five-Minute Mysteries, "Blood Brothers".
Segment Three: For segment three we have from Dimension X, the adaptation of a short story by H. Beam Piper, Time And Time Again. Published for the first time in (depending on who you believe) April of 1947 in Astounding Science Fiction or the July 1959 issue of Fantastic Universe. Now, since this radio presentation has been pretty reliably dated to July 12 of 1951 I find myself persuaded of the former rather than the latter date. This confusion is probably traceable to a reprinting of the story by Fantastic Universe on that date. The story revolves around Allan Hartley, a dying soldier, who is given the chance to return to his youth and change history. This character would show up in a couple of Pipers Paratime stories and is regarded by most authorities to be a part of the series . Although the Wikipedia article referenced above does not include this story.
Segment Four: Once again thanks to the librivox project we are able to present for your edification, entertainment and maybe just a teeny - weenie, tiniest little bit of education (and I hasten to assure you that any educational value is entirely accidental) Lafcadio Hearn's 1887 short story The Soul of the Great Bell as read by Paul Sze. "Now this is the story of the great bell in the Tachung szâ, as the same is related in the Pe-Hiao-Tou- Choue, written by the learned Yu-Pao-Tchen, of the City of Kwang-tchau-fu."
