January 2010 marked the 81st birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the first anniversary of the inauguration of America's first African American president, Barack Obama. Given these two events, Shedding Light's host, Byrd, and Henrietta J. Burroughs, the editor-in-chief of East Palo Alto Today, talked with Dee Uhila, Susi Feltch and Andrés Connell -- three guests who are very active in the East Palo Alto community. During their discussion, the show's participants shared their views on how far America has come since 1963, the height of the civil rights movement in America.
