It's the new hot meme: we are going down. Interview with Dmitry Orlov, author of "Reinventing Collapse", and John Michael Greer, "The Long Descent". Plus clips from Prof Joseph Tainter & Dennis Meadows. Will it be a relief?

Original interviews.

In this program, we'll hear two of the most prominent voices. Dumb media calls them "collapsniks". I have much more respect.

Dmitry Orlov keeps piercing the veil with his insights, gained partly from his bridging the gap between the former Soviet Union, and the increasingly dysfunctional United States. He's the author of "Reinventing Collapse:The Soviet Example and American Prospects," published in 2008. The book suggests the Soviets were better prepared for social and economic collapse, than Americans are now.

John Michael Greer has moved from the edge of mysticism, into a thought leader for alternative culture. He's the author of 20 books, including "The Long Descent"

I also run a short clip from "Limits to Growth" author Dennis Meadows, prepared for the Davos summit in Sept 2009, on collapse.

Plus many people take their lead on collapse from the work of Joseph Tainter, the Head of the Department of Environment and Society at Utah State University. His book The Collapse of Complex Societies was published in 1988. Tainter looks at past civilizations, from the Maya to the Romans, to see why they fell down. You hear a short clip where the problems of the Roman Empire look a lot like America and Europe today.
