This is a weekly program which began on a now defunct low power FM station (KSOW) in Cottage Grove, OR. Since there seems to be some interest in the show I have decided to continue it. In this connection I will post a new show by Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. There is also a 64 bit version.

In the main, each episode consists of four approximately 30-minute long programs (not always, as
sometimes I use a longer form show, so it may be 3 or fewer) and some filler to bring them in at 120 minutes.
.

Broadcast Advisories

Use these programs in any way that suits you, commercial, non-commercial (well, don't sell it). Use them on your low power FM station or your AM station. Stream it on your internet station or stream. Whatever. Edit them if you want to, however you want to! I'm easy. In a few cases commercials have been left in but in those cases there is disclaimer stating that they are there for "historical perspective" only. I have edited out any underwriter spots that once existed. There is no comment about run times ( i.e. "It's Sunday night at 10 pm and this is Night Transmissions.") Also I have edited out any mention of the town I live in. In other words I have endeavored to make make these programs as "Evergreen" and global as possible. I would even consider making (at some point) shows that are tailored to some degree for specific locations. In most cases the mp3 file runs a little longer than 120 minutes. However, in all cases the main show comes in at under 120 minutes; anything in excess of 120 minutes is just music that can safely be faded out.

As of show 21 there are 30 second musical interludes at 30,60 and 90 minutes. with the last 5 to 10 minutes or so of the show uninterrupted music that can be faded out on without too much ado, Exact times will be in the mp3 comment tag

If you do broadcast or stream these I'd really be grateful if you dropped me a note.

This episode contains the following segments...

Segment One:
Is an episode of The Avengers, South African style.

Produced and transmitted in South Africa between 6th December 1971 and 28th December 1973 It featured adoptions of scripts first aired on the very successful British T.V. show The Avengers. The show starred Donald Monat as John Steed, and Diane Appleby as Emma Peel. Two top agents of the British secret service.

The radio show was served up pretty much following the style and tempo established by the BBC Television series during it's run from 1961 to 1969. Just like the television series the South African radio presentation features outlandish, quirky villains, mad scientists and secret organizations . A little James Bond, a touch of Smersh and Specter, some Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin a hint of U.N.C. L.E. and Thrush. Oh, and just a little Max and 99.

This show has a distinguished pedigree.

The episode for today, "From Venus with Love", is a fine example of the shows sense of style. Centering on a strange and secretive organization whose hidden agendas and dodgy motives bring them to the attention of The Avengers. In this episode John and Emma investigate why and how members of the British Venusian Society are dying suddenly and under weird circumstances while observing the objects of their affection, Venus (no blue jeans involved here).

Segment Two:

Segment one for this week is quite long, about 70 minutes, so this week there are only three segment rather than the usual four.

Up first is Police Headquarters with the episope, "The Perfect Murder aka The Telephone Suicide". In this early radio drama ( it was first broadcast in 1932). A man calls the police declaring his intention to kill himself. Then there is A gunshot. When the police arrive on the scene they find a body in a locked room with a bullet in its head rather conspicuously dead.

Was it suicide?

Next is a three minute excursion to December 12, 1941 for a Strange Adventure - The Wind Wagon.

To conclude this segment we got ourselves another locked room murder mystery. (Well it is murder and it is a room, of sorts.) From sometime in the late 1940s comes Five-Minute Mysteries with "Death in a Turkish Bath".

Segment Three:
Is a short story,The Putnam Tradition written by Sonya Dorman . This story first appeared in Amazing Science Fiction for January of 1963. This audio Version is from the Librivox project and is read by Tibbi Scott .

"Through generations the power has descended, now weaker, now stronger. And which way did the power run in the four-year-old in the garden, playing with a pie plate?"

Music:

Nana Mouskouri - Plaisir d'Amour (2006)

Neil Diamond - Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show (1969)

Judy Collins - Priests (1967)

These dates should not be taken as canonical.
