ON AUGUST 21, 1831, NAT TURNER, WHO WAS OWNED BY JOSEPH TRAVIS, LED A SLAVE REVOLT IN VIRGINIA, IN WHICH ABOUT SIXTY WHITE SLAVE OWNERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WERE KILLED. THE SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY SLAVE REVOLT IS CONSIDERED BY MANY HISTORIANS AS THE FIRST SALVO IN THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR, ONE OF THE BLOODIEST CONFLICT IN HUMAN HISTORY.
YESTERDAY, THE PEOPLES ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS, THE NEW BLACK PANTHER PARTY AND THE FRIENDS OF NAT TURNER PARK CELEBRATED THE NAT TURNER REBELLION AT THE NEWLY OPENED 9-ACRE NAT TURNER PARK IN NEWARK NEW JERSEY. WBAI FRED NGUYEN WAS THERE AND HE FILES THIS REPORT:
