During the Six-Day War, Israel attacked and nearly sank the USS Liberty belonging to its closest ally, the USA. Thirty-four American servicemen were killed and 174 wounded in the two-hour assault by Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats. Israel claimed that the whole affair had been a tragic accident based on mistaken identification of the ship. The American government officially accepted the explanation. For more than 40 years many people have disbelieved the official explanation.

This is "the only maritime incident in U.S. history where [U.S.] military forces were killed that was never investigated by the [U.S.] Congress.

This show features an interview with CDR David E Lewis Ret., who was serving on the Liberty at the time of the attack as Lt. CDR and head Intelligence Officer in Charge of USN 855 and as Department Head of the Security Group which consisted of all the CTs, RMs ETs, and some of the support personnel. (195 of the ships complement of 295).
