Al-Bayaty analyzes Egyptian society a year after Tahrir Sq. protests; explains success of Muslim Brotherhood & failure of protesters to reach beyond Tahrir to other social groups and seek solutions to Egypt’s pressing needs as opposed to maintaining posture of opposition & protest that has cost them support. She speaks of importance of army, given proximity to Israel, and doesn’t see it as threat to long-term democratization; of how it could not led Israel to repeat of Cast Leads; of how all Egyptians have been politicized by events, and all are in solidarity with Syrians against al-Assad.
