Journalist Karla Garcia Ramirez fled Mexico after getting death threats after blowing the whistle on government corruption. Despite this, she was turned down for refugee status. Refugee advocates fear that the Harper government is planning to put Mexico on a "white list" and declare it a safe country, with disastrous consequences for any Mexicans claiming refugee status in Canada. Rick Goldman is coordinator of the Committee to Aid Refugees in Montreal.
