The Unseen Legion is NOW. It is cultural revolution and spiritual evolution. It is introspection and self-expression. It speaks truth to power... and the music never lies.
Episode 35: Salute! DJ Lord Ron
DJ Lord Ron is an inspiration and mentor to countless LA heads and he, along with his brother TRIPLE ACE, were eyewitnesses to and participants in the emergence of the original Los Angeles hip-hop style. He has done many things in his hip-hop career, from album production, promotion, radio (is a regular DJ on 90.7FM KPFK with Breakbeats & Rhymes Radio), and has rocked a million and one parties, but most important to ULR is that DJ LORD RON is the Godfather of UNSEEN LEGION RADIO. When he invited YESKI to join him on a guest appearance on Kill Radio's RADIO SENDIDDY in late 2012, we seized the opportunity to get our own slot on the station. So, as we always strive to give credit where it is due, it was the highlight of the show's existence to return the love and host the legend this week as we rang in Yeski's birthday. TOMMY BLAK from Phase Two Radio joined DJ EARL-E, PROSE, BIN GRIM, QUEZ, AND REZIN for the festivities and yes, Triple Ace brought the bubbly! We chopped it up for awhile and spoke with Prose's cousin Jeremiah who was calling in from Brooklyn where he was also celebrating his birthday too! Land Mark also called in to remind us about an upcoming event and shout out the show.
And then Lord Ron hopped on the tables and showed us all why he is one of the best known spinners in the city. All vinyl, all jams, all night. Fam, he went for over an hour with joint after joint. Then he opened up the mics for another ridiculous ULR Freestyle session, followed by a birthday shout out to Yeski as midnight approached. Lord Ron even busted a freestyle himself. Live on the air.
WHAT!?! Where else are you gonna get that?
DJ Earl-E threw down a Yeski Anomiks birthday set to close out the show and bring us into the extended mix, where we had a 3-way scratch-off with DJ Lord Ron, Tommy Blak and Earl-E, more freestyles and many more dope jams. But you had to be there for that. Because hip-hop is also about being in the moment. And Unseen Legion Radio is the stuff hip-hop is made of. One Love, y'all. Enjoy!
