As the world gets more automated and more technical, we detect a strong yearning to return to "the good old days".

On The Commons is a weekly radio show dedicated to discussing the many issues surrounding mandatory homeowner associations, the fastest growing form of residential housing in the nation.

As the world gets more automated and more technical, we detect a strong yearning to return to "the good old days". This sense of longing manifests itself in everything from retro toasters to retro cars and even retro housing. But wait, whatever happened to that sense of belonging, of community, tolerance and individuality? The old fashioned homes, complete with porches and alleys these days come with a whole new set of rules and restrictions that did not exist, nor were they necessary in "the good old days". How is the extra layer of government affecting the way we live and how is it impacting our quality of life?

On The Commons with me this week is Barry Silver. Barry, a Florida attorney, has been representing George Andres in his fight to keep Old Glory flying. In an unprecedented move, Barry got some help in court from the Florida Attorney Generals office. We'll talk about that and find out why the association is still trying to foreclose to collect its legal costs and what is next in this particular battle.

At the bottom of the hour we will be joined by Jan Bergmann, president of Cyber Citizens of Justice (CCFJ), a Florida based consumer friendly organization. Jan will tell us about the problems another association where 120 members risk being foreclosed on and why CCFJ warns people not to move to "Fraud Friendly Florida." Please join us On The Commons this Saturday, May 31, 2003. We'll learn just how well this nostalgic return to yesteryear fits into the way life used to be, from a state where much of the population remembers "the good old days".
