Apocalypse How? Climate Change, the Political-Economy of Energy, and Reigniting the Radical Imagination - Panel sizes up the work necessary to reverse climate destruction. Henwood argues that only the State has the power to force the changes necessary; individual acts while not unimportant will not check the neo-liberal assault on life. Only movement pressure and popular control of the State can break the power of corporate capitial. Francis Fox Piven, historian, reminds us of the popular movements that in the past had such power and the social conditions in which they won their gains. She reminds us that there is power in refusing to cooperate. Henwood speaks about that power inherent in society similarly. While "things" are bad Eddie Yuen sees no advantage in framing the moment, as some do, as hopeless.
