This week we focus on the telling way the U.S. justice system treats victims of Israeli torture. Our main feature is an Electronic Intifada podcast with Charlotte Silver's interview on this subject with Nora Barrows-Friedman on the 11-10-2014 conviction in Detroit, and current U.S. imprisonment of Palestinian immigrant Rasmea Odeh.
Rasmea's conviction for "immigration fraud" was based on a jury's impression that she "lied" on her immigration application forms some years ago by checking off the box for no past arrests or convictions. The jury hadn't been allowed to hear the explanation that many years back she had been grabbed by Israeli soldiers, imprisoned, and tortured into a false confession, leading to a false conviction. In other words, she really was free of LEGITIMATE arrests or convictions.
The EI podcast also features an interview with delegates on an Interfaith Peacebuilders delegation recently returned from Palestine. One delegate is a local African American woman from Boston, Trina Jackson.
Host John Roberts also discusses the current U.S. policy, ever since 9-11-2001, of targeting Muslims in the name of "national security." On ACLU's staff at the time, he got a close-up view of this.
This Week In Palestine (a weekly part of Truth and Justice Radio) is an award-winning three-quarter-hour segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them.
It's a regular part of Truth and Justice Radio, aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, streaming and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine archives back thru 1-6-2008; earlier editions are obtainable from radio4all.net or by navigating through our playlists. (At this important time, TJR has been airing a lot of Palestine coverage IN ADDITION to that provided by This Week In Palestine.) We hope you'll write to us at tjr@bluebottle.com if you rebroadcast our work, or have questions or comments.
