We have heard the warnings for years now: climate change will someday force people to move from their homes. Sea level rise will put places from Miami to the Maldives underwater. For the remote Alaskan village of Shishmaref, that time has already arrived. This week on Sea Change Radio, we talk with environmental journalist Kate Sheppard of the Huffington Post. She tells us what goes into relocating an entire town that is being rendered unlivable by climate change, and what the experience of Shishmaref can teach us as our planet continues to warm. Then, we lighten things up a bit in a brief discussion with ersatz Republican Congressman Jack Kimble, who represents California's mythical 54th congressional district.
