The entirety of todayâs show features a one-hour talk by Professor Richard Falk, commemorating the 11th anniversary of Edward Saidâs death. We capture him as he delivered the annual Edward W. Said Memorial Lecture on October 31, 2014 at Columbia University, where Said taught.
Falk devotes the bulk of his talk to the issue of whether Palestineâs call for justice should be regarded as a âlost cause,â as asserted by a cynical French diplomat he had encountered.
Unquestionably, justice-seeking Palestinians have few tangible resources and no military power at all. Clearly, they have no hope of achieving the justice they deserve from current Israeli or US âleaders.â Yet, despite the massive, murderous attacks rained down on them, they continue to resist, and they are winning the war of legitimacy! This actually frightens the Zionist community, despite its vast resources and absolute control of US politicians and media.
Falk suggests Vietnam, when it was under US siege, as a comparable situation.
Richard Falk is Professor of International Law and Practice Emeritus at Princeton where he was a member of the faculty for 40 years. Falk has been Special Rapporteur on Occupied Palestine for the UN Human Rights Council since 2008, and served on a panel of experts appointed by the President of the UN General Assembly, 2008-2009.
This Week In Palestine (a weekly part of Truth and Justice Radio) is an award-winning three-quarter-hour segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them.
It's a regular part of Truth and Justice Radio, aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, streaming and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine archives back thru 1-6-2008; earlier editions are obtainable from radio4all.net or by navigating through our playlists. (At this important time, TJR has been airing a lot of Palestine coverage IN ADDITION to that provided by This Week In Palestine.) We hope you'll write to us at tjr@bluebottle.com if you rebroadcast our work, or have questions or comments.
