Robin Philpot discusses his interview with Willy Nyamitwe, a spokesman for the Burundi government, regarding the stunning reversal of the African Union (AU) December decision to send 5,000 troops into Burundi to quell an artificial crisis.
Philpot added a very relevant and interesting catch-22 point: Burundi was elected to the Peace and Security Council that makes the decision to send in troops. It is in the Constitution of the Peace and Security Council and the African Union (AU) that they could not send in troops to any member of the Peace and Security Council. So, do they remove Burundi from the Council or do they abide democracy?
