U.S. is directly and openly involved in that country, contrary to all laws
Interview
Stephen Gowans, Ottawa-based writer and political commentator, author of the upcoming "Patriots, Traitors and Empires: The Story of Koreaâs Fight for Freedom"
Phil interviews Stephen Gowans about his newly published article, "The (Largely Unrecognized) US Occupation of Syria," in which Gowans indicates that the world media has failed to note that the US has carried out a full-scale military occupation of North-East Syria, East of the Euphrates, which happens to contain most of Syria's oil and gas industry, and its arable land.
In addition to several thousand US troops, the US also has diplomatic personnel on site, whose job it is to work with Kurdish militias in order to build local governmental organizations for the purpose of creating some sort of Kurdish entity in this territory.
Gowans points out that this occupation is not only illegal according to international law, but also illegal according to US domestic law. The US politicians have justified the occupation on the basis of countering the growing influence of Russia + Iran in Syria. Gowans, however, demonstrates that Russia and Iran were invited into Syria by the legitimate government whereas the US is in Syria in violation of international law.
