Only in recent decades has it been found that Type 2 diabetes, once a disease that struck the aging, is appearing in children and disproportionately in indigenous communities. Poverty and the legacy of colonialism are major contributing factors. With the lead coming from Manitoba, there have been innovative developments from indigenous leaders and major health institutions.
