Long celebrated by Zionists and condemned by justice activists, the so-called Balfour Declaration, 100 years ago, is credited with setting in motion the creation of the state of Israel on Palestinian land ... without consulting Palestinians. On paper, it was a 67-word letter in 1917 signed by the openly racist and antisemitic Lord Arthur Balfour, then Britain's Foreign Secretary.
This is one of five consecutive shows covering the conference "Balfourâs Legacy: Confronting the Consequences," held on November 11th at the First Parish Church in Cambridge MA, now re-airing. There were many engaging presenters. We've already presented Yousef Munayyer's keynote address. Today we present the 2nd panel, titled "Confronting the Balfour Consequences."
