August 10 is Prisoners' Justice Day (PJD) across Canada, as prisoners fast and refuse work in memory of those who have died unnatural deaths inside the walls.
PJD began in 1975, when prisoners at Millhaven Penitentiary in Kingston commemorated the anniversary of the death of Eddie Nalon. Musicians and spoken word artists perform at the candlelight vigil outside the Don Jail in Toronto at the 29th anniversary of PJD. Speakers include an ex-prisoner on the history of PJD, lawyer Paul Copeland who represented Eddie Nalon, CKLN's Audrey Redman, and more. Please email pjd@ckln.fm if you broadcast this audio.
