This recording of Europera 5 was produced by Brian Brandt and released on the Mode Records label as Mode 36 in 1995, with performers Yvar Mikhashoff, Martha Herr, Gary Burgess, Jan Williams, and Don Metz. Europera 5 is the last and most diminutive of Cages operas " preceded by Europeras 1 & 2 (1984-1987) and Europeras 3 & 4 (1991) " and was instigated by pianist Yvar Mikashoffs desire for a small, more practical and portable, and more easily performed work in the series, which had its premiere in Buffalo at the North American New Musical Festival on April 12, 1991.

Columbia professor, Rashid Khalidi, journalist and author Ta-Nehisi Coates, and civil rights attorney Michelle Alexander speak out against the genocide that Israel and our Government are perpetrating in Gaza with our money and in our name.
The proceedings were paused several times by resounding applause, which you will hear and perhaps want to join.
Of particular note: Rashid Khalidi has family residing in Gaza who, at the moment he speaks, have been ordered to vacate or prepare to die. Despite this, his very first recommendation is to visit Palestine!

This is a report from the webinar held on October 26 by the Indigenous Climate Action. Panelists from Hoopa Valley, Bear Clan, Sandia Pueblo and Yuchi presented their in-depth research into false solution to the climate crisis.
By now there is agreement that the burning of fossil fuels is the major cause of global heating. In spite of 28 years of annual meetings of the UN Climate Change Conferences heating has increased.
In July, 2023, the global average temperature was the highest on record. And the IMF, the International Monetary Fund, announced in August 2023 that Fossil Fuel Subsidies surged to a record $7 Trillion.
In response members of the European Parliament now call for an end to all subsidies for fossil fuel globally by 2025. They will bring this demand to the COP28 that will meet in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
The problem might be that COP28 will be held in one the world’s most lucrative oil producing regions. And Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, who has been appointed to preside over the COP28, is the managing director and group CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
The moderator of the meeting at Indigenous Climate Action is Carol Monture.

Julia Bernal from the Indigenous Nations of Sandia Pueblo and Yuchi. She is the executive director for Public Action Alliance, Albuquerque, NM.
Sage Goodleaf-Labelle was born to the Bear Clan of the Kanien’kehá:ka nation, in what is now Canada. She is a student at McGill University.
Thomas Joseph is Hoopa Valley tribal member, from the Six Rivers National Forest of what is now called California. He is the carbon pricing educator with the Indigenous Environmental Network.

Kaarina Kailo's recent book (in Finnish) on the rich history of women and saunas reminded WINGS of this beautiful documentary, provided to WINGS by the now-defunct Euroquest series from Radio Netherlands. You really feel yourself there, and get an idea of how saunas have adapted to modern living in Finland and yet remain a major source of social cohesion, especially among women - perhaps accounting for the relatively high status and achievements of women in that country. (Kaarina's Sauna book will be out in English when she finds a publisher.)

I only paid attention to Cop City when I watched Black Power Media; after some time though, questions started arising, questions requiring answers which not many seemed keen on answering. The title for this episode hides the enormity of those questions; yet the question included in the title reveals that enormity at the same time. When considering the “state”, a country comes to mind, maybe some institutions, possibly the central government structure; but the state is significantly bigger than these conjured images or ideas. The state is these things plus more. Its persistence reveals this much. More fascinating, the diverse imaginations upon hearing the word reveals the state’s broad existence. All this said, the episode focuses not only on the question’s cosmopolitan impact, but the historical revelations associated with the struggles occurring in those bygone eras. Often given a pass to express their bloodthirsty extremism, the right is rarely intruded upon like the left is; in fact in the face of annihilative and outright murderous tendencies, the left has proven to be non-violent, practicing instead, a powerful morality relying on the correctness of their arguments rather than the fear from bodily harm. Understanding this dynamic colors this question in a way that seems self-conclusive.
