Abandon the Battlefield - The Story of Two Israeli War Resisters (Refuseniks)

March 27, 2025, 8:45 p.m.
This week, we provide audio from a special presentation of two Israeli War resisters who were travelling across Canada shedding light on their bold decision to refuse military service in protest of Israel’s occupation of Palestine and its ongoing violence in Gaza. Einat Gerlitz and Tal Mitnick are leading figures in a growing wave of dissent among Israeli youth, challenging the brutal military occupation and advocating for Palestinian liberation. Both of them have paid the price for their stand, enduring time in Israeli military prisons for their refusal to participate in what they call a violent system that perpetuates apartheid and genocide. Their actions have sparked a global conversation about the vital role of war resisters in the fight for human rights and a free Palestine. They are also examples of the call to others in military service during illegal wars to Abandon the Battlefield, a major activist call by the Centre for Research on Globalization. So this week, we thought we would give you the entire presentation by these two heroic individuals at the Hope Mennonite Church, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 20, 2025.

Political Conclusions We Can Draw About Black America with Dr. Christopher Towler

March 27, 2025, 5:24 a.m.
Our guest is Christopher Towler, PhD. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Sacramento. He is the Director of the Black Voter Project, Co-Founder of Black Insights Research and the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics. In the first half of the show, we talk about the data that allows us to draw rather different conclusions than many folks had when going into the most recent presidential election. Many narratives were chronicled that are not ultimately supported by the polling of Black people around this country. In the second half of the show, we discuss the polling data since the election and what conclusions we can draw from it. We also examine some positive aspects of the data uncovered by Dr. Towler and how the progressive minds in this country can implement it into their strategies moving forward. Our Way Black History Fact covers the real reason the Statue of Liberty has chains on her feet.

This time, however, the dynamic is a little bit unusual as large chinook salmon are finding their way into small urban creeks in downtown San Jose, California. Today we are speaking with environmental writer and fisherman Jeremy Miller as he recounts a piece he recently penned for Sierra Magazine. We try to unearth the mystery of how these fish ended up in a major metropolitan area, look at federal protections which differ based upon a fish’s origin, and discuss the role of the local water district in all of this.

March 23, 2025, 8:02 p.m.
The subprime lending crisis and the national debt crisis have something in common - interest. Margrit Kennedy (1939-2013) was a German architect, professor, environmentalist, author and advocate of complementary currencies and an interest- and inflation-free economy. In 2011, she initiated the movement Occupy Money.  In this interview she explained how interest creates inflation, and eventually collapses economies, and proposes a different system of money circulation called demurrage.
