Building Bridges: Update on Immigrant Workers Terrorized in Mississippi ICE Workplac...

Update on Immigrant Workers Terrorized in Mississippi ICE Workplace Raids
with
Marely Lopez, daughter of an immigrant worker family victimized by the Mississippi ICE raids who talks about the impact of this assault on herself, her family and her community now and in the future.
and
Bill Chandler, Executive Director of the Mississippi Immigrant Rights Alliance,
and
Luis Espinoza, Central Mississippi Community Organizer

Media throughout the country reported that while Trump was forcing himself on El Paso, a city that wanted no part of him, after his words and policies helped arm the white nationalists and triggered his massacre there, his immigration police storm trooped their way into several Mississippi food processing plants where they terrorized thousands of workers and arrested nearly 700.

One union president, Marc Perrone, of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union said of such raids: They tear hard-working men and women apart from their children, families, and communities. Its wrong. The people who do these incredibly difficult jobs have the right to due process, and to be treated with respect and fairness. These raids spread unmistakable pain among neighbors, friends, co-workers, and loved ones.

This ICE raid should be considered an act of terror committed against working families by the Trump administration, acting under profoundly unjust immigration laws inspired by racist and xenophobic contempt against people from Mexico and Latin America.

Raids targeting workers who are fighting every day to care for their families are a waste of public resources that could otherwise be spent combating the white nationalist terrorism that has claimed the lives of so many over the years.

As "Oscar Chacon, Executive Director of Alianza Americas said We must redouble our efforts to protect vulnerable families. For we who are dedicated to social justice and human dignity must step up to protect the families being attacked. They are our neighbors who make massive economic and cultural contributions to our communities and country.
