This Week In Palestine: Nidal Al-Azraq of 1for 3 on the preservation and sustainable...

Date Uploaded: 2019-04-19 08:10:00.0
This week we focus on water … the water crisis in Palestine. As most of us know, Israel has expropriated most of Palestine's water resources for the benefit of its Jewish population, including settlers in the West Bank, feeding their households, swimming pools, lawns, and other whims. A tiny fraction is still allowed for Palestinians. We have as our guest Nidal Al-Azraq, Executive Director of the organization 1for3. 1for3 works year-around to develop models for the preservation and sustainable use of the water still allowed to Palestinians.

Nidal grew up in the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, but currently lives here in the Boston area with his wife and 2 children. We sat down with Nidal to talk about his work here and in the Aida Refugee Camp.

Please consider joining us at the Walk for Water sponsored by 1for3, which aims to raise money for these very important projects in the West Bank that Nidal has been talking about. The Walk is May 4th in Cambridge. To get information and to register for the Walk, browse to 1for3.org. You can do something to mitigate the water crisis in Palestine by joining the Walk for Water.

Before we go, we take a look at Israel's latest military assault on Gaza, which took place in mid-March. Israel again overreacted to rather harmless rockets that they claimed were fired by Hamas, although Hamas has denied it. This is the latest in a long list of bombardments that Israel has rained on Gaza in the last several years. We play a response that puts the issue in perspective by Ali Abunimah of the Electronic Intifada, speaking on Al-Jazeera.

Last week was Rainier Avenue Radio’s birthday and so in celebration I am replaying show #001 for RAR, which aired on February 2nd of 2018. For this week’s show we describe widespread and systemic censorship on social media, the Toothless Old Grandpa describes the modern ‘witch hunt’, and for the feature piece we describe various bits of information about bits of information. Finally, we remember the ‘good old days’ and we describe the feds version of the ‘broken window theory’.

You don’t need to take a number for quicker service, but you probably wouldn’t want to anyway. This is the Thunderbolt.

Date Uploaded: 2019-04-18 11:30:21.0
Sonic Café. Hey welcome to another hour of intelligent, eclectic music comedy and pop culture that’s ahh out of this world. I’m Scott Clark, thanks for joining us as we prepare to launch into episode 133. This time the Sonic Café comes just a bit unhinged as we first hear an aging baby boomer rant on about millenials. Then later well hear comedian Shayne Smith hate on the entire state of Wyoming. All wrapped in a music mix pulled from over forty years. We’ll spin the Baker Brothers, Blink 182, Herb Alpert and Lani Hall, Joe Jackson, and of course many more. Then later listen as Hollywood movie star Matthew Mcconaughey gives you tips to live a better life in our very first Matthew Mcconaughey moment. And finally a big Sonic Café welcome to our newest sponsor. Swiftamine. Get Swiftamine, for those times when you’ve just had enough of Taylor Swift. All of that and more this time from that little café on the coast in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, we’re the Sonic Café.

Sometimes cities come up with theme songs. We'll demonstrate why you shouldn't do that. You'll find another song of the colonel kind where you'll wonder why we play it, and not so soothing synthesizer sounds of the past. Yeah, we're a bit negative....which is positively cheezy!
