On today’s program we bring you part 2 of our look at the crisis in Haiti following the destruction wrought by the Jan. 12th earthquake that struck the Island. On last week’s program were aired the first part of an interview with local Haitian expatriate and activist Lionel Jean Baptiste. In that interview we discussed the 200 year history of relations between the U.S. and Haiti and how for the most part, that relationship has helped to ensure Haiti’s current state of poverty and under-development. On today’s program will air the second part of that interview and discuss what that 200 years of bad history means for Haiti today, as the United States plays a leading role in relief efforts. Will also air an interview with Kim Ives of the Haitian publication Haiti Liberte. In that interview we talk about what needs to happen to ensure that reconstruction efforts truly benefit the Haitians themselves.
