On March 1, 2012 student rally/protest against attacks on Black education, Dr. Issa was attacked by police and at the hospital was diagnosed with a separated shoulder and other medical injuries. At his hearing Police admit they had no probable cause to arrest him. Posters containing racial slurs, advocating lynching were distributed in the black community just prior to the student protest.
