After a long conflict in the community of Kanehsatake, just 60 km north of Montreal, Mohawk Grand Chief Steven Bonspille was recently elected in elections closely followed by local media. On both North and South shore of the island of Montreal, live the Mohawks. There have been several conficts in this community in recent years largely as a result of continuing pressure by politicians and private enterprises. Today, Mohawks have lost a large part of their territory. Steven Bonspille talks about recent mining plans that have divided the community.
