Bertie Wapache is from the Cree Nation in Northern Quebec. He comes from the community of Nemaska on the shores of James Bay, where the Quebec government has planned for the derivation of one of the only remaining water ways of that part of the province: the Rupert river. In this speach given during the 2 day conference Northern money, southern lands, Wapache talks of the significance of this river to his culture and about the "Paix des braves" (the truth of the brave), an agreement that was passed with the government and native leaders.
