Here in Canada, five Muslim men continue to be detained under extremely strict bail conditions, without charge, and without being able to see the evidence against them. Includes updates on the last jailed detainee (Hassan Almrei) being released on bail, CSIS recording lawyer-client phone calls and the court cases.

Being... ...detained without charge. ...prevented from seeing the evidence against you. ...threatened with deportation to torture. ...labeled a terrorist.
This is what five Muslim men here in Canada have been facing for the past several years.
These five men are being held under national security certificates. Under Canadian immigration law, security certificates, allow non-citizens to be detained under these conditions.
For the past decade, the cases of these men have made their way through the courts, while community activists, lawyers and politicians have all demanded an end to the security certificate regime.
One of those community activists is Matthew Barrens. Matthew works with the Campaign to Stop Secret Trials in Canada.
Stark Raven spoke to Matthew about the bail conditions of the detainees (including those of Hassan Almrei who was recently released after 8 years in virtual isolation), the reaction to discovery that CSIS has been recording lawyer-client phone calls and what the men are facing in the court since the re-issuing of security certificates after the Supreme Court of Canada declared Security Certificates unconstitutional and the introduction of new security certificate law, Bill C-3.
