Foreign sources report that the U.S. agreed to send its troops to the Sinai in order to obtain Israeli consent to the ceasefire. Their mission will be to interdict the shipment of weapons to Hamas in Gaza. It appears that the ceasefire is an interlude in the war rather than a step towards a lasting peace.
