Tim Dwight: Gridiron Solar

Sept. 15, 2015, 6:12 p.m.
Perhaps the hardest job in professional football is that of the Punt Returner, who tries to avoid being torn to shreds by very large, rapidly approaching human beings. Our guest today on Sea Change Radio is Tim Dwight, who was a Kick Returner and Wide Receiver in the NFL for ten years. He now applies his David vs. Goliath skills to the solar industry, where he competes against fossil fuel giants and advocates for better energy policies as a solar lobbyist and an executive for a solar EPC, or Engineering Procurement and Construction company. We talk about his transition from one of the least sustainable careers you can think of, in every sense of the word, to one of the most sustainable. We also touch upon some of the systemic problems plaguing the NFL, including artificial turf and public stadium financing. And, finally, Dwight gives us a behind-the-scenes glimpse into his time spent with the Chargers, Falcons and Patriots.

Out of the Woods - Show #284 - 9-19-15

Sept. 15, 2015, 5:46 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length. Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

RISING SEA LEVELS - The Causes, the Data and a Look into the Future

Sept. 15, 2015, 4:36 p.m.
NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, has over 20 years of data on sea level rise in the oceans of the world. They give regular public updates and you will hear from four of their scientists who reported in a teleconference on August 26, 2015. Sea level rise, NASA scientists say, is already occurring. The open question is just how quickly the seas will rise in the future. The consequences of global sea level rise could be more serious than the worst-case scenarios predicted by the dominant climate models and the IPCC, which don't fully account for the accelerating breakup of ice sheets and glaciers. With: -- Michael Freilich, director of NASA's Earth Science Division -- Steve Nerem, lead for NASA's Sea Level Change Team at the University of Colorado at Boulder -- Eric Rignot, glaciologist at the University of California, Irvine and JPL, Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California -- Josh Willis, oceanographer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, JPL, California The link of that NASA conference on Sea Level Science is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDdNxb2xVBU

Corbyn victory a resounding return of the real Labour Party

Sept. 15, 2015, 4:50 a.m.
The media said it was impossible. Tony Blair said not to do it. But they did. By an overwhelming majority, Labour Party members swept Jeremy Corbyn into the candidacy on the first ballot. The divide between the media/financial nexus and the common people has not been so visible in a very long time. Jeremy Corbyn is returning every idea swept under the rug by the Blairite carpetbaggers: withdrawal from NATO-led aggressive wars, de-financialization of the British economy, reinvestment in the public sphere, and support for the war-torn refugees that were created by Blair's policies. Criticized dishonestly as 'unelectable,' Corbyn has brought many thousands of supporters back into labour, and signals an astounding rejection of the Thatcher-style policies adopted by Labour's fifth-column.
