Bill Kreutzmann: Bound To Cover Just A Little More Ground (re-broadcast)
June 30, 2015, 7:38 p.m.
This week on Sea Change Radio we have the honor of visiting with Bill Kreutzmann, original drummer of the Grateful Dead, and organic gardener. Host Alex Wise talks with Kreutzmann about the natural resources on the idyllic island of Kauaâi, where he currently lives and where he has developed a passion for these lush surroundings. We also learn how his hope for a healthier island and planet prompted his civil disobedience to prevent the Hawaii SuperFerry from docking in Nawiliwili Harbor. As a lifelong fan of the band, Wise also asks him about his years with the Grateful Dead. Billy K recalls playing with Mickey, Phil, Bobby and Jerry, talks about his most recent musical project, 7 Walkers, and about how, in the post-Jerry Garcia era, the bandâs remaining members feel a little more free to become advocates for causes that most inspire them.

Bacteria and You: A Love Story (ONE of TWO) Dr. Jack Gilbert
June 30, 2015, 3:50 p.m.
Dr. Jack Gilbert is on a mission to induce love, understanding and respect for bacteria.
He has formidable academic credential with the Argonne National Lab. He is the group leader for Microbial Ecology in the Biosciences Division, and manages the Earth Microbiome Project. That's an ongoing effort to characterize the microbial diversity of our planet. And he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago, and the Associate Director of the Institute for Genomic and Systems Biology.
In this one hour lecture given in June 2015 in Chicago Dr. Jack Gilbert explains that we are unable to survive without the trillions of bacterial cells inside and on our bodies. He describes how they influence our health and how the way we live and eat in return influences the microbiome. He also discusses recent research into the relationship of our microbiome with diseases such as Alzheimerâs, autism and cancer.
Freedom Flotilla III seized in International Waters by Israelis. Struggle to end blockade continues.
June 30, 2015, 3:34 p.m.
David Heap explains the Israeli illegal attack on the Swedish flagship Marianne and the Israeli practice of blocking all radio and satellites so they are the only ones to own the image of their attack and the story for at least 12-24 hours.
Heap is very clear: What this is really about is strangling the Palestinian economy and making it completely dependent on the occupiers economy. Israeli occupiers control the land, the sea, air access, the economy, currency, electricity, water and even the civil registries. Phil adds: "It is like putting an iron curtain around them."
Heap explains why the occupation is extremely lucrative for the Israeli occupiers and how the Israeli "battle test" military arms on the Palestinians and use that testing as an endorsement for selling arms to the Europeans, Americans and others.

Out of the Woods - Show #273 - 7-4-15
June 29, 2015, 9:08 p.m.
This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith. All of these influences converge on Out of the Woods to bring you a mix which is as much on the edge as it is down home. Folk music with a rock 'n' roll soul

Mahdi Nazemroaya on Wikileaks Saudi cables
June 29, 2015, 3:16 p.m.
Petro-dollar bribery, smear campaigns, purchasing journalists and media outlets - it's all part and parcel of daily Saudi "diplomacy."
Investigative journalist Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya trawls through the Wikileaks cables and the staggering (but entirely unsurprising) revelations within.
They confirm what we already know: Saudis are destabilizing Iraq, highly active in Syria, and bribing their way into legitimacy.
Saudi Arabia pours so much money into Western journalism that there must be a reluctance to disrupt this cash flow by printing stories critical of the Gulf monarchy.
Nazemroaya also discusses Saudi horse trading with countries such as Australia and Russia.
But who released the cables? Was the Yemen Cyber Army capable or interested in doing so? Why so few releases about Syria?
