Earth Week Interviews: Geo-Engineering & Changing the World Through Stories
April 24, 2015, 11:50 a.m.
On this week's Global Research News Hour, we mark Earth Day with two interviews related to the urgent call to defend the planet from environmental damage.
First, we hear from Michael J Murphy, director/producer of the films "What in the World are the Spraying" and "Why in the World are they Spraying". He discusses the clear and present threats associated with Geo-Engineering including so-called 'chemtrails' and speculates on who benefits and who does not from efforts to control the weather.
Carrie Saxifrage is a sustainability reporter for the Vancouver Observer and the author of the book "The Big Swim: Coming Ashore in a World Adrift". She discusses how popular action can more easily be mobilized by changing the narrative and the way we approach the dilemma of climate collapse and other environmental hazards.

April 23, 2015, 6:04 p.m.
In the April 2015 Taxcast: How just are our tax systems towards women? Plus: one of the USA's biggest corporations (and tax avoiders) is repatriating billions from offshore and re-focusing on good old manufacturing again, and remember how the UK Prime Minister was 'leading the world' in transparency measures not so long ago? We discuss the letter a former Cayman Islands lobbyist and Conservative peer wrote to reassure the tax haven that it was an empty gesture to distract from the proposed Financial Transaction Tax.

Israeli General's Son, Miko Peled, Speaks Out
April 23, 2015, 12:56 p.m.
This morning we feature Miko Peled in a speech he gave in Prague, Czech Republic, shortly before the recent Israeli election. Miko Peled is an Israeli citizen, born into a prominent Israeli military family, who has become a sharp critic of the Israeli occupation and a staunch advocate for the rights of Palestinians. He is author of The General's Son. The recording was made for us by our Czech colleague, Mark Pickard of Vox Populi and Radio Free Radical (www.radiofreeradical.org).
In this speech, Peled minces no words! He characterizes Netanyahu's visit to U.S. Congress as a "campaign stop" for the upcoming Israeli election (which Netanyahu subsequently did win). During this charade, our spineless Congresspeople fawned and honored him with ovation after ovation. The media was his servant. Because of the buzz about who would and would not attend his speech, he got free campaign advertising throughout the world, day after day.
Peled's speech is quite thorough, and stretches the limits of our time, so we will go right to it. There is some audio distortion, for which we apologize. We think you'll find the content very worthwhile.

Daniel Kammen: Electricity For All, Pt. 1
April 21, 2015, 9:44 p.m.
How easy it is to take our electrified world for granted. Right now about 1.2 billion people or about 20% of the global population live without access to electricity. These people can't read at night, or power their phones to communicate or conduct crucial e-commerce. What if that 20% could access energy, though? How transformative could that be for those 1.2 billion lives? But wait, would that mean a corresponding 20% hike in greenhouse gas emissions? Not if our guest this week is able to make his vision real. This week on Sea Change Radio host Alex Wise speaks with Daniel Kammen, a Professor of Energy at the University of California, Berkeley. He recently published a paper in Nature Climate Change which paints a hopeful picture of a future where affordable renewable energy reaches those 1.2 billion, with an overall positive impact on the environment. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Kammen has advised the Obama Administration on climate change issues, served as a technical specialist for the World Bank and was part of the IPCC team that shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
