#367 -- Chris Hedges on the Empire of Illusion (R)
March 15, 2015, 12:41 p.m.
A brilliant and wide-ranging talk. Journalist-prophet CHRIS HEDGES discusses the pacification of the exploited citizenry by the corporate media ... the fraud at the heart of the national economy ... Wall Street's destruction of the U.S.'s manufacturing sector ... "Brand Obama" ... the perfidy of Obama and of other "courtiers" to the real power ... the failure of the Left to challenge Obama's Bush-ist policies ... and the funeral of Michael Jackson. ... Cartoon Night w/ Paul Dini, Ben Edlund & C. Martin Croker LIVE!!!
March 15, 2015, 10:14 a.m.
A truly special episode of the FUNHOUSE!
In 1997, I hornswoggled an old pal into doing a show: Paul Dini, the cartoon/comics writer/producer behind the animated shows TINY TOON ADVENTURES, FREAKAZOID, ANIMANIACS...and the superbly dark BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. Paul wrote the best Joker episodes and created Harley Quinn! In the middle of the festivities a couple more buddies just happen to pop in--Ben Edlund, creator/artist/writer of THE TICK, and my friend Clay Croker, the artist/animator/writer/and voice of Zorak from SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST! Why would you suppose that this spucking fecktacular episode of the show has never ever been replayed in the 18 years since it was first broadcast? Any guesses?
Because SUSIE FUCKED IT UP.
And I fucked it good. I had no inkling that using the guest mikes, the turntable channels came up much louder than the regular fader setting I was used to, DUH--so I got an overamped, inaudible mess with the too-loud background music covering up everyone's voices. Son of a WHORE!!! But 18 years later, I fixed it up for rebroadcast!
With jawdroppingly insane musical selections, this one is truly a lost gem. Enjoy!

Classic Q! Casa De Mi Padre
March 15, 2015, 8:11 a.m.
This week we take a step back to episode 31 for a quick Q REWIND! We get a small hiatus, and you can listen to us chat about Will Ferrellâs rear end -Again! Enjoy.
***************************************************************
SADDLE UP! This week we set out to discuss the under appreciated Will Ferrell pelÃcula (as some may say) CASA DE MI PADRE Set in Mexico and completely told in Spanish, we hear the tale of Armando (Will Ferrell), who has lived and worked on his fatherâs ranch his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armandoâs younger brother Raul, shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia. It seems that Raulâs success as an international businessman means the ranchâs troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raulâs business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexicoâs most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza! Completely rompus, and ridiculously ironic, Casa De Mi Padre is anything but subtle. Fake mannequins and perfecto accents â throw in an epic love scene and see what happens! We also break down our âTop 3 Nude Scenes we wish weâd NEVER Seenâ, as inspired by endless NALGAS!

Wisconsin's Right to Work
March 14, 2015, 11:47 a.m.
When Words Don't Mean What They Say:
"Right to Work" Laws are Anything but That!
featuring
. Kevin Gundlach, Pres., South Central Labor Federation, Madison, WI
. Elizabeth Tandy Shermer, Asst. Prof. of History, Loyola University, Co-author with Nelson Lichtenstein, The Right and Labor in America
Wisconsin is the latest State to fall victim to the right wing anti-union juggernaut.
"Right to work" laws destroy unions-that's their real purpose. "Right to Work" laws are not driven by a groundswell of disgruntled union members chafing under union oppression, but by employers, industry associations and lobbyists."Right to work" laws drive down wages for everyone. We'll explore the history of right to work laws, who and what's driving this juggernaut in states across the nation and what is to be done to challenge this race to the bottom.
Richard Falk on the Palestinian "Lost Cause"
March 14, 2015, 8:13 a.m.
The entirety of todayâs show features a one-hour talk by Professor Richard Falk, commemorating the 11th anniversary of Edward Saidâs death. We capture him as he delivered the annual Edward W. Said Memorial Lecture on October 31, 2014 at Columbia University, where Said taught.
Falk devotes the bulk of his talk to the issue of whether Palestineâs call for justice should be regarded as a âlost cause,â as asserted by a cynical French diplomat he had encountered.
Unquestionably, justice-seeking Palestinians have few tangible resources and no military power at all. Clearly, they have no hope of achieving the justice they deserve from current Israeli or US âleaders.â Yet, despite the massive, murderous attacks rained down on them, they continue to resist, and they are winning the war of legitimacy! This actually frightens the Zionist community, despite its vast resources and absolute control of US politicians and media.
Falk suggests Vietnam, when it was under US siege, as a comparable situation.
Richard Falk is Professor of International Law and Practice Emeritus at Princeton where he was a member of the faculty for 40 years. Falk has been Special Rapporteur on Occupied Palestine for the UN Human Rights Council since 2008, and served on a panel of experts appointed by the President of the UN General Assembly, 2008-2009.

4th session of two day symposium organized by Helen Caldicott to educate and alert the public to increased threat of nuclear war from pathological thinking about what constitutes "security".
Ideas as "winnable nuclear war" and "automating launch command" of nuclear weapons must be checked by the Public if we are to reverse the current course. Most US politicians are too self absorbed, insecure, financially self interested and mesmerized by the nuclear idol to act in responsibly given what is now known.

The End of American Exceptionalism
March 13, 2015, 1:23 p.m.
"The United States today finds itself threatened by three interlocking crises. The first of these crises is economic and cultural, the second political, and the third military. All three share this characteristic: They are of our own making.
...
Yet, as events have made plain, the United States is ill prepared to wage a global war of no exits and no deadlines. The sole superpower lacks the resources â economic, political, and military â to support a large-scale, protracted conflict without, at the very least, inflicting severe economic and political damage on itself. American power has limits and is inadequate to the ambitions to which hubris and sanctimony have given rise." ~ Andrew Bacevich
Andrew Bacevich is perhaps the only writer to regularly contribute to both the Nation and Pat Buchanan's The American Conservative. Andrew examines the United Statesâ daunting problem of overexpansion and overconsumption and argues for a return to pragmatism before the damage from such excessiveness becomes irreparable. Andrew calls for respect for power and its limits and an aversion to claims of exceptionalism and skepticism of easy solutions, especially those involving force and a conviction that Americans must live within their means.

Student Debt Trap: Breaking the Grip of the Predatory Lenders
March 13, 2015, 3:50 a.m.
In the month of February, fifteen former students of the for- profit Corinthian Colleges System declared they would no longer be paying off their sizable federal student loans. They see the Corinthian system as corrupt, making false promises and part of a predatory leding racket. This action sets the stage for a conversation about the Student debt crisis and the nature of money.
Ellen Brown author, former civil litigation attorney and founder of the Public Banking Institute comes on in the first half hour. She explains how student debt is not only crippling the debt holders with unfair debt repyment obligations, it is used by money managers as a commodity not unlike the Subprime mortgages that infamously led to the financial meltdown of 2008.
In the second half hour we hear a September 2011 speech given by San Francisco Bay Area-basedIndependent journalist and podcast producer Kellia Ramares-Watson. She goes further than Ellen BRown in suggesting that the money system not only has to be reformed but disbanded altogether. She suggests in the speech that students should default on their debts as a political action.
