Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Kate MacLeod, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. Dr. Rashid Khalidi, author of "Brokers of Deceit"

Today we unpackage the US role in the so-called Israeli-Palestinian "peace" talks, and we reveal what happened in their latest round. We share with listeners Building Bridges Radio's very special January interview with Dr. Rashid Khalidi, author of "Brokers of Deceit: How the U.S. Has Undermined Peace in the Middle East" (Beacon Press, 2013). This book won the 2014 Lionel Trilling Book Award.
Khalidi is the Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies at Columbia University in New York City. He is author of six books about the Middle East.
Khalidi draws on his own experience as a Palestinian negotiator and combines history, common sense, and his first hand understanding of Arab-Israeli peace talks, as brokered by Washington, to unpackage the latest endeavor and discussing the difficult but essential steps needed to achieve peace in the region. As he explains, the U.S. is functioning as Israel's lawyer, not an "honest broker" by any stretch of imagination.
Quoting its publishers: "Brokers of Deceit bares the truth about why peace in the Middle East has been impossible to achieve: for decades, US policymakers have masqueraded as unbiased agents working to bring the two sides together, when, in fact, they have been the agents of continuing injustice, effectively preventing the difficult but essential steps needed to achieve peace in the region."

he served as mayor from 1988-2000. In the early 1990s Helmke worked with Jim

Oren Yifchatel on Israel's Treatment of its Negev-based Bedouins

This week we feature a lecture from Professor Oren Yifchatel on Israel's outrageous treatment of some of its own citizens, the Negev-based Bedouins. The Bedouins live in isolation from the Israeli Jewish community, following their own ancient customs and doing no harm to others. Israel's leaders want to push them off their lands and into some other country. This cruel campaign continues every day. Manifestations include demolition of structures, over and over and over again after each time the Bedouins rebuild them.
We also learn of other recent developments, including Germany's decreased support for Israel and growth of the international BDS campaign.
