Lymph Node Institute's "NERDS" Show!

You know, it's a funny thing... For the past few years in a row, I played this show on the weekend DragonCon was going on, so I never heard it. It was cribbed from a disc of mp3s that Doc Ellis had slipped me. Well, I blew the dust off it to play it for DCon this year--only to find that all this time, it was mislabeled! It hasn't been the NERDS Show at ALL! So this show hasn't been played in AGES. And it's a pity, because the "good" doktors knocked themselves the fuck OUT for this one! This is one of the finest episodes of "Bob"'s SlackTime Funhouse ever aired, and it showcases the Doktors themselves in a piece they wrote and performed that will make you split a frickin' gut. But don't worry, they have a stapler to get you back together.
Yes! The NERDS Show! Doc P. Ellis and Doktor Bugbladder make no pretense of their origins--yes, they were the spawn of comic books, RPGs, sci-fi conventions...all that good stuff. So it gives them a unique perspective as they engage in this psychosociological dissection of the World of the Nerd. Bugsy adds the sonic textures that underlay Doc Ellis's lecture, "Nerds vs Eggheads: Into the Next Cycle." Then, assisted by infrequent Guest Doktor Dr. T. Nitus, the Institute presents an elaborate, wicked, and totally spot-on play about gaming, gamers, and the gamemasters who get gamey with them in their "Youth Encounter Situational Therapy Session." Toss in a little Leonard Nimoy and some even more excruciating filking...you think I'm kidding? You'll know I'm not when your next earworm is "Filking in the U.S.A.," buster.

Yes! Tonight, "Bob"'s SlackTime Funhouse is honored to play host to St. Byron Werner and his own SubGenius radio show, Little Rock's RURAL WAR ROOM! Both the Lymph Node Institute and I have done Robot Shows, but St Byron has knocked our shiny metal dicks in the dirt--and this is just part 1! He beat the bushes in the most remote recesses of the world to bring us the ULTIMATE in Mondo Beyondo and Molto Bizarro musicks with a Metal Man theme. Assisted by his sidekick Donavan Suitt, St Byron fires up the studio's coruscating Jacob's ladder machines and conjures vibrant life into cold metallic shells full of circuitry. He even name-checks some Czechs who perform a song about robots...which is wholly appropriate when you consider that the concept of the ROBOT originally came from Czechoslovakia!

Lymph Node Institute's "REMIX" Show!

In this episode of the FUNHOUSE, the good (?!!) doktors of the Lymph Node Institute ponder the nature of numbers, then they delve into the virtues of repetition and weigh its comparable quality, creative bankruptcy in their scientific balance. They cavil about how I used and remixed their voices like puppets in the previous week's "Anthrax!" show. They dig up evidence of history being recooked and remixed right under the noses of the very people who lived through the reality and try to ascertain why the deception works. And the whole thing ends with a colossal, rolling trainwreck of derivative sounds and sequences burbling out of the speakers that will tie your ganglia up in Gordian knots.
With horrific sonic background textures by Dr Bugbladder, and chunks of remixed mush from Emergency Broadcast Network, Butthole Surfers, and too many sources to name, this is a mindbuggering show by A-list, E-ticket derange-o-nauts at the top of their game. Enjoy!

Vandana Shiva: Genetically Engineered Food and the Militarization of Agriculture (TWO of TWO)

We owe Vandana Shiva a huge debt of gratitude for having been one of the first to explain that modern trade agreements are no longer just about setting tariffs at the borders but rather increasingly global bills of rights that give corporations power over national laws and regulations, all in the name of maximizing their profits.
In this wide ranging Question and Answer exchange she explains the so-called investor - state suits before unaccountable trade tribunals where corporations can sue governments when they feel that their profits are being curtailed by state laws to protect health, safety, labor, the environment or other so-called obstacles to trade.
Shiva gives an update on the status of a global effort to label GMO food and explained in detail why industrial agriculture is war both in methods and outcome. She ends by describing the Seed Freedom movement that was launched by her organization, Navdanya, in collaboration with groups concerned about the corporate movement to make owning and planting of seeds illegal. Vandana Shiva puts out a reminder that the freedom to own and save seed is a human and civil right.

Phil talks with Charles McLaurin in Mississippi, one of the leaders of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, about the battle for freedom in the American South back when it was an Apartheid South.
Specifically, they discuss Jim Dann, and his new book, "Challenging the Mississippi Firebombers: Memories of Mississippi 1964-1965."
So much of what we know from these battles in American history comes from historical overviews, but they don't tell us what it was like to go down a country road at night to a meeting that the Klan has cancelled, they had said, because they intended to kill everybody.
