Now works full time as a private investigator and in the CA Statewide Coalition Against Police Brutality for all families who have been victims of law enforcement corruption and working on changing procedures and laws allowing such corruption. Rosemary Duenez – Lathrop, CA – a mother and grandmother whose son Ernest Duenez Jr. was murdered by John Moody of the Manteca PD on June 8, 2011 – Ernest 34 yrs old was a father of an 11 month old son at the time, the Duenez family maintains weekly Sunday protests at the Manteca PD and is actively working with the CA Statewide Coalition Against Police Brutality. They fought to have the dash cam video released to them and they in turn released to the public in their fight for justice. Their civil case is currently in the federal courts in Sacramento, Ca and trial will begin in early 2014. The officer was cleared by the DA’s office but the family maintains an ongoing investigation and continues to put pressure on law enforcement to be accountable and file murder charges. Denika Chatma – Vallejo, Ca – mother of Kenneth Harding 19 years of age was murdered on July 16, 2011 by San Francisco Police and then left to bleed out while medical personal was not allowed through police barricade – she moved her family back to California from Seattle to fight for justice for her son and holds monthly feeds for the homeless in the spot that still is stained with the blood of her son. Aka the Kenny Feeds held by the Kenneth Harding Foundation – they have recently been blessed with a new location in a church to continue their work. She is currently in a civil trial. Cephus Johnson aka “uncle bobby”– uncle of Oscar Grant murdered by Johannes Mehserle on a BART platform in Oakland, works nationally to organize and unite families who have been affected by the injustice system, their story is on screens nationwide in the film FRUITVALE STATION – you can read reviews here:

Presence is what Nico was about. She had worked the catwalk and she knew how to grab attention just by standing still. Her voice at first was such a contrast to that lovely face, but as the years passed she transformed into her greatest role, the Junkie Priestess of Punk, and her voice was by then total perfection. She was loved for her story and that voice and her songs.

Richmond Shakespeare & Henley Street Theatre

In a neat example of nonprofits collaborating and consolidating their resources to be stronger, Richmond Shakespeare and Henley Street Theatre are merging their leadership. Richmond Shakespeare has existed for more than 30 years; it’s a thriving program devoted to Shakespeare performance and education. Henley Street, a relatively new venture i(now in its 7th season) is dedicated to theater classics that have stood -- or will stand -- the test of time, from the Renaissance to modern day. Both companies use Agecroft Hall as a base and have rather coincident missions. The merger, begun recently in light of management vacancies, will continue over a couple of years. But the two companies will head into the 2013-14 season as a unit, producing Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, Death of the Maiden and Richard III, among others this season. The “Marriage of True Minds” campaign is also underway to provide the necessary funding to execute a sound merger. Also, this season sees the “Age of Shakespeare” program (in celebration of Will’s 450th birthday!) and the yearly Bardathon. There's a lot of ominous language about "what must be done" to Syria. The centres of Western empires, who call themselves "the world," want to intensify another war. The Anglosphere has endless crimes on its hands, it lied about the WMD in Iraq, and now it's going off the rails about Syria. Haroon Siddiqui of the Toronto Star, like others last year, has asked NATO to bomb the palace of Assad, so that Syria's problems would be fixed. Did he miss the war in Afghanistan? Or Iraq?

My So-Called "Great" Depression

It happened again tonight as I left the WREK studios. I walked out of the Student Center and paused out on the sidewalk to gaze up at the midnight-teal sky, feeling the cool edge of a breezesoothe my cheek. The skyscrapers of downtown Atlanta rose around me, glowing with golden light, and the whole outside world was pulsing with life, full of intrigue a-borning and teeming with promise and possibilities. I stood there in the shadows and sensed its visceral vibe like a heartbeat. At that moment I wanted nothing more than to jump the fence and run away into this magical night to join this wonderful, fascinating world...and then I assessed my sad reality. My shoulders reflexively slumped back into the default position, and I walked disconsolately to my beater car. It's not the first time that's happened there. Every couple of months or so, I happen to leave at just the right moment, and BOOM--something about the ambient campus breezes and the jewel-like color of the night sky begin to speak to me. They beckon and lure me, and always, ALWAYS, every single fucking time, I turn away and slink back to my lonely hole. But the way things are looking for me right now, my future seems so bleak that I feel as if I'm retreating back to my grave. Saturday is the loneliest night of the week, and it has been for going on twenty years. But that's a constant thing. But after a year and a half of unemployment and dwindling prospects have abraded my psyche raw, it's an even worse a burden. But I figured that since I've been scraping along on the underside of a spiritual nadir, what the hell--I may as well just give into my despair, and go with it and turn out the most depressing show I possibly could. I couldn't get it done in time for last week, and that depressed me to no end. But it wasn't like I didn't have expert help--I was assisted in my search for the lowest of the low by such gutter-level luminaries as Dave Cloud, Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band with the Rootettes, Jehova Hates Phred, Eydie Gormé, the Ass Ponies, the Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Diamanda Galas--and the two aces in my aching soul-pit of sadness, Marvin the Paranoid Android from the BBC Radio version of HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, and the madmen and -women of THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD. And don't worry, there's not much me in it. Now that I've delivered this announcement, I think I'm going to try to sleep it off. No, I don't mean my mood--I mean my entire life.
