Starting last spring a French lead intervention went into Mali in resposne to political insabtilty in the country driven by a military coup, nationlists Tourage groups in the coutires north, and Al Queda affliative groups. Now the intervention has been scaled down but on Sunday July the 28th, an election will be held in Mali. To talk about the current situation in Mali and what the election may hold I talked with Roger Annis,a coordinator of the Canada Haiti Action Network (CHAN) and its Vancouver affiliate, Haiti Solidarity BC, who has been covering the war in Mali consitenlty on his website Rogerannis.com.

Detroit's economic woes can be tracked to capital flight, governmental policies and the results of institutional racism, not the wages and benefits of its public workers. But, ignoring these bedrock realities Michigan's Governor Snyder has appointed an Emergency Financial Manager for the financially strapped Detroit, Kevyn Orr's who has rushed into bankruptcy - seeking to balance the books on the backs of the workers. His bankruptcy filing will result in the pilfering of workers' pension funds, while fundamentally ignoring the causes of the City's fiscal crisis. Bankruptcy will seriously wound pensioners, despite the fact that the unfunded portion of the pension funds are miniscule and unconstitutional under Michigan's
Constitution. Orr's undue attention to public workers pensions is part of a nation -wide trend targeting the retirement security of working Americans -- especially pensions, Social Security, and Medicare.

This version of the program is divided into 6 segments so broadcasters who desire to use this content can insert your station info, etc. The segments vary in length, but I try to keep them approximately 30 minutes in most cases.
Out of the Woods is an earthy, wires and wood, mostly acoustic program featuring some of the best new and established artists from the worlds of folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, alt.country, Americana, classic country, old-time, Celtic, and everything that falls in between. The show is an unpredictable mix flowing like a river between moods, often with an edge or in a melancholy minor key. On occasion, Out of the Woods features interviews and live in-studio performances with national and international touring musicians. Past guests have included artists such as Bela Fleck, Si Kahn, Brown Bird, Dana Robinson, Steve Gillette & Cindy Mangsen, Bill Bourne, Karl Shiflett, Rachel Bissex, Darryl Purpose, Bow Thayer, Cosy Sheridan and many others. Out of the Woods grew out of Jon 'Chip' Colcord's former acoustic programs, The Song Swap and Music For The Mountain, separate folk and bluegrass programs which aired in New Hampshire during the 1990s. As a child, Colcord grew up a ravenous music fan with an ear for both rock and folk, from Arlo Guthrie to Aerosmith.
