The Struggle Against Fascism in Russia, part 1

This week we speak with Ukrop, an anarchist, antifascist activist, and maker of the documentaries "Antifascist Attitude" & "Actions vs. Repressions". This is part 1 of a two part interview, in which they talk about the history and context of Nazi influence in formerly-Soviet Russia and the rise of radical anti-fascism. Ukrop also discusses how the internet effected punk and anarchist subculture in Russia in the 1990's and the first decade of the 21st century. In the conversation we cover overlaps between police and prisons and nazi's as well as how the education system in that country feeds into nationalism and capitalism. She recounts her experience during the "Second American Revolution" when doctors and citizens organized to pressure political leaders to end nuclear weapons proliferation and the normalization of the belief that nuclear war was "winnable". Nuclear power reactor high level radioactive waste has reached the point that it is, along with run away climate change, an existential threat to the future of civilization, perhaps human life itself. In spite of her bleak prognosis, she reminds us of the commitment that doctors make to sacrifice on behalf of their patients recovery and admonishes those of us in the United States to work toward to that end.

Ah, yesss....my first foray into Bush-bashing! I retooled this one from early pre-9/11 2001, but it was damned hard to fix because it's full of crappy xtian LPS that sound like crispy cellophane is being wadded up in the background. Man, those religious records are in even worse shape than the ones that were owned by drunks! Anyhow, I'd been doing the FUNHOUSE for some seven years under Clinton, and Funboy Bill was just no fun to abuse. I was itching for a good candidate to play the heavy, then the 2000 election rolled around... Ironically I had thought George W. was going to just be some hardline bible-thumping fundamentalist--little did I dream of the twisted road that lay ahead of me and led all the way up to my obsessive 17-hour HURRICANE SPECTACULAR cycle. *EESH*...!!! The musical chunks contain songs by Pink Lincolns, Tonio K, and Oingo Boingo, but mainly the thing is stuffed to the gills with smug, crazy preachers and assorted loons, including some 1961 xtian musical revue album called FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, written by some effete-looking woman named Helen Kromer, with the lengthy, annoying, and weird "Gimme God Blues" (just add "Bob"!). And the song with "I'm a spider" and "What came first, sin or fun" is from an edgy, hippie-era xtian rock musical album titled SALVATION. It apparently involved the contrived gimmick of some big stage-prop cross covered with light bulbs (which accounts for the guy singing the double entendre "I'm up here trying to plug it in--you make me feel ashamed!"). My album, according to a rubber-stamped notice on it, was decommissioned from the Cleveland, GA, library--probably because at another point, the guy stops in mid-song and says, "SHIT!" Hell, that surprised the living shit out of me!

Mississippi's Nissan Factory Auto Workers Bring Message of Worker's Justice with . Raphael Martinez, auto worker Canton, Mississippi . James Brown, auto worker Canton, Mississippi The United Auto Workers union launched a major union drive at the transplant Nissan factory, in Canton, Mississippi in the heart of the anti-union South. The Canton plant, with 3000 workers has wage disparities with other Nissan plants, serious discord over limited and onerous health benefits policies and is employing growing numbers of temporary workers, creating a two-tier wage and benefit system to both super exploit the part-time workers and undermine maintenance of a full-time work force's wages and benefits. Nissan has interrogated workers about their involvement in organizing and forced them to attend anti-union meetings several times a week and try to scare the workers intimating that if they unionize the plant could close and they would lose their jobs.
