Voices from Palestine after Hamas's "Surprise" Attack
Oct. 20, 2023, 3:49 a.m.
Today we feature Palestinian voices giving context to this past week's crisis. These are voices which for the main part were not heard on commercial American TV. The first voice is Electronic Intifada’s founder Ali Abunimah as interviewed by Al-Jazeera early in the past week. Our 2nd voice, Palestinian Academic Rafaat Alameer, was recorded in Gaza as he sat in his home with his wife and 6 children as the Israeli firestorm was exploding all around them. The 3rd voice is Israeli dissenter Hagai Matar, founder and journalist for the critical Israeli Magazine +972. The 4th and final voice is Columbia University Professor, Rashid Khalidi.
A note from the editor: Hamas’s vicious attack could not have surprised Israel's top leaders. Somehow, Gaza's "secure” fence got magically opened, allowing numerous Hamas vehicles and fighters to cross, attack Israeli settlers, and bring back captives. Here’s what commander of the Kerem Shalom Battalion, who knows the area in detail, wrote…: “Something here doesn’t add up to me!!! This is a mystery that I can’t find an answer to. I was the commander of the Kerem Shalom sector (Rafih), I was in charge of the Kissuf sector, I know the perimeter fence very well, I know how the army works there. ... There are 24/7 forces that are responsible for arriving within a few minutes, if not seconds, to the point where there is an alert in the fence. Every day [we] do at least one penetration practice. Each subdivision has a standby squad whose role is to increase the force in an emergency situation. Observations scattered along the border cover every inch of it. ... Someone here needs to provide explanations!!” (Article 10-13-2023 by By Dr. Paul Craig Roberts and General Herzl Halevi posted at https://www.globalresearch.ca/speculation-mark-hamas-attack-allowed-close-book-palestine/5836029)

Originally Broadcast: June 28, 2006 and July 5, 2006
The Culture Code, An Ingenious Way to Understand Why People Around The World Live and Buy As They Do
The collective unconscious may be defined as a cultural code, a set of imprinted concepts that control how members of different societies live. Dr. Clotaire Rapaille, a French born psychologist brings together the concepts of Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud in his development of the collective unconscious in the book, “The Culture Code, An Ingenious Way to Understand Why People Around The World Live and Buy As They Do.” Dr. Rapaille thrives on new ideas, which is part of the reason he chose to become American. We visited by phone from his home in New York State, the last week of June 2006, and asked him to describe the development of his ideas.
Dr. Rapaille’s website is: www.archetypediscoveriesworldwide.com

Israel’s 9/11: Fighting Terror through NAKBA 2.0
Oct. 20, 2023, 12:21 a.m.
This week on a dynamic episode of the global Research News Hour we are turning our attention to the explosion of all peace between Israel and Gaza following the devastating attack by Hamas on Israeli citizens and the show of support from world leaders, from the US, Canada, France and elsewhere giving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu moral support to not only inflict violence on Palestinians, but also to wage genocide on the population greater than any level since the creation of the Israeli State in 1948. In our first half hour, Canadian activists Yves Engler and Ken Stone speak up about the role of the Canadian government and about protests in Hamilton affecting the left wing New Democratic Party. In our second half hour, we hear from Journalist Rob Inlakesh about the many unverified and plausibly incorrect stories in Israel and Gaza circulating on mainstream and social media. Finally, Phil Giraldi a former counter-terrorist expert spelled out how this attack by Hamas which sparked a brand new war on terrorism was also a false flag incident.

"All Things Cage" is a weekly program featuring conversations between Laura Kuhn, Director of the John Cage Trust, and Cage experts and enthusiasts from around the world. If youd like to propose a guest or a topic for a future program, write directly to Laura at lkuhn@johncage.org.Laura Kuhn presents the first recording of John Cages Europera 5, preceded by her reading Recollections of the Premiere Performance by Yvar Mikhashoff. This recording of Europera 5 was produced by Brian Brandt and released on the Mode Records label as Mode 36 in 1995, with performers Yvar Mikhashoff, Martha Herr, Gary Burgess, Jan Williams, and Don Metz. Europera 5 is the last and most diminutive of Cages operas " preceded by Europeras 1 & 2 (1984-1987) and Europeras 3 & 4 (1991) " and was instigated by pianist Yvar Mikashoffs desire for a small, more practical and portable, and more easily performed work in the series, which had its premiere in Buffalo at the North American New Musical Festival on April 12, 1991.

Ilan Pappe: There is still Time to Stop the Gaza Genocide
Oct. 18, 2023, 3:21 a.m.
The bombing of Gaza by Israeli planes and missiles had just begun when Barat and Pappe had this conversation on October 15, 2023.
Ilan Pappe is best known for his book: ‘The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine’ Oxford, 2006. It is the history of the 1948 Palestine-Israel War and how around a million people were expelled from their homes at gunpoint, civilians were massacred, and hundreds of Palestinian villages were deliberately destroyed. Pappe used newly declassified Israeli documents to prove that ’transfer’ aka ethnic cleansing - was an integral part of a carefully planed strategy in the 1948 war that led to the founding of Israel. Ilan Pappe is Professor of History at the University of Exeter, UK.
Frank Barat is a journalist, producer, and activist. He has worked on books with Noam Chomsky, Ilan Pappe, Angela Davis and others. You can watch the 28 minute video of this interview under the title: There is still Time to Stop the Gaza Genocide on Frank Barat’s YouTube channel.

Zac Unger: Looking Polar Bear Endangerment In The Eye (re-broadcast)
Oct. 17, 2023, 10:47 p.m.
We have all seen the mournful image of an unhappy polar bear isolated on a melting ice floe. It conveys the doom of that one bear as well as his species, and implies that we are all headed in that direction if something is not done about global warming. Inspired by such images and his commitment to ecological conservation, this week’s guest on Sea Change Radio, Zac Unger, ventured up to the great white north to check out the plight of polar bears himself, up close. What he found surprised him. Embedding himself with scientists, Unger learned about how the bears are adjusting their diet, fasting periods and even breeding behavior in response to the warmer, longer summers that climate change is bringing. These adaptations, in conjunction with hunting prohibitions instituted late in the 20th century, have allowed the polar bear population to flourish.
The picture that Unger paints of this robust, adaptable species stands in stark contrast to the impression most of us have of the endangered polar bear. While some climate change deniers are exploiting Unger’s work to make their case, it’s important to keep in mind that his book, Never Look a Polar Bear in the Eye, also demonstrates that global warming is indeed happening, and that the only route to survival, for any of us, is adaptation. Unger’s journey and discoveries also raise questions about the eventual impact that the bear’s adaptations will have on polar ecosystems, and critically consider the changing role of scientists as advocates.
Episode 2023.00.0G. Dear 1968 GOP, Be Careful What You Wish For, The Breaking of an Institution
Oct. 17, 2023, 10:31 p.m.
Class War Battlefield Podcast Episode 2023.00.0G
Dear 1968 GOP, Be Careful What You Wish For,
The Breaking of an Institution
With Clips from The White House Youtube Channel, Midas Touch, The Brookings Institute,
The 1968 GOP – well a, at the time, fringe portion in the 1968 GOP – received everything their heart desired; they now control the house, the caucus is now controlled by extremists, free market principles dominate the country politically and economically, the media is filled with conservatives from the E-suites to the reporters on the beat and the legislative fight against everything non-white is escalating resulting in to reversal of the black rights legislation passed that decade; with eyes dead set on reversing every New Deal measure passed three decades before. Further, individualism rules the day while the post-new deal bureaucratic growth has been drastically decreased with many previous expansions undone by lobbyist inspired legislation. With all they’ve gained, you’d think the GOP would be filled with competent governing personnel, but they aren’t, why? See the second point in the above list. These pro-Capitalist, Free Market extremists are nihilists dedicated to ripping apart the governmental institutions they have pledged loyalty too. This episode builds off these sentiments.
Music Used in the opening, Curtis Mayfield’s Think, Brandy’s The Definition and Marvin Gaye’s Inner City Blues or Michael Jackson’s They Don’t Really Care About Us.

Promo: Sloths
Oct. 16, 2023, 3:12 p.m.
Learn all about sloths with author Georgeanne Irvine from the San Diego Zoo, and biologist Sam Trull from the Sloth Institute in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica. Find out how we can all help protect sloths.
This episode comes with a hands-on Learn-Along guide which meets and cites US National education content standards for use in the classroom.
Sloths live in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, but Tornero lives in San Diego. A favorite at the San Diego Zoo, Tornero is the subject of Georgeanne Irvines latest book,Teaching Tornero: The True Story of a Sloth Superstar.
Georgeanne Irvine works in the publishing office at the San Diego Zoo, and has written more than 50 books about animals, but this is the first one about sloths. The kids talk with her about Torneros extraordinary life at the San Diego Zoo, and we learn a bit about the different species of sloths. Then, Jo from our Kids Crew reviews Teaching Tornero. The book is geared toward elementary aged kids, and is full of stunning photos of Tornero at the zoo throughout his lifetime.
Then we head down to Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica where we meet Sam Trull. She is a founder of theSloth Institute, a conservation organization dedicated to saving sloths who are orphaned, or injured.
Sloths in Costa Rica face numerous challenges, including electrocution from the commonplace, uninsulated electrical wiring used throughout the country. Sloths are also prone to becoming orphans as a result of their mothers being injured, killed, and the ever-shrinking habitat they call home. Even the loss of one tree can be devastating for a sloth population.
We learn how we can support sloths no matter where we live, by refusing to participate in invasive, exploitive sloth tourism. Sam Trull explains that anywhere people are allowed to interact up close, or pet sloths, they are actually harming the animals. Sloths are solitary, and the best way to enjoy them in the wild is to quietly observe them in the tree canopy while staying far away from them, or seeing them from the ground.
Learn about the Paleolithic Ground Sloth, a mega fauna that thrived on the American continent for millions of years until just 11,000 years ago, when humans made them extinct. You can learn more about ground sloths in ourFossilsepisode, and hear how they interacted with people in ourBrief History of the American Southwest for Kids podcast series.
This episode was written and produced by our Senior Producer, Christina Stella and Katie Stone, our Executive Producer. We recorded this show at the Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with help from engineer Chad Scheer. Our Learn-Along guide was written by Lorraine Archibald.
