Report back on Gaza: Martha Roberts

In June 2012, a delegation of community activists and political organizers went from Vancouver to Gaza. On July 22, the delegates reported back on their trip and brought messages from Palestinians living in Gaza. Martha Roberts is a registered midwife and an activist in the fields of poverty, health and women’s issues. Since 2006 Martha Roberts has worked with the Alliance for People’s Health, an organization of health workers and grassroots organizers committed to the struggle for health for all.

What's wrong with the U.S. food system?

Poor nutrition is a big reason why almost one-fifth of the U.S. GDP is devoted to health care. We show how the U.S. food industry became cartelized and vertically integrated after World War II with the emergence of agribusiness. As the large food corporations and their partners in the oil and chemical industry pursue profits, the quality of the U.S. diet has steadily deteriorated with the massive use of pesiticides, preservatives and corn syrup. A return to local farming and home gardens may be the answer.

Arguably, the number one threat to the Patriot Movement is infighting. It has been quite noticeable and it’s not a recent phenomenon either. It’s something that’s been going on in fits and starts over many years. Even though there are current efforts to conduct third party arbitration, internal balkanization is very much a genuine threat and still constitutes the biggest elephant in the room.
