ASSANGE SEEKS ECUADOR ASYLUM
In a startling escape from house arrest two weeks before his court-ordered extradition to Sweden, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange materialized overnight at the Ecuador embassy in London, where he formally petitioned for political asylum. So far, under diplomatic protection, he has evaded a new arrest for parole violation, which could obstruct his potential flight to Ecuador and ultimately bring him to the US, where some believe a sealed indictment for espionage awaits him. Assangeâs US attorney MICHAEL RATNER of the Center for Constitutional Rights discusses his clientâs legal options.

Cline Mining sues B.C. government for $500 million

In 2010, the provincial government banned all mining and oil and gas development in the pristine Flathead valley, which borders national parks in Canada and the U.S. Last month Cline Mining filed notice in the Supreme Court of British Columbia claiming that its rights had been injuriously affected by the ban. Solidarity with Quebec student strike

For more than 100 days, 200,000 students have been on strike in Quebec. This is the longest student strike in Canadian history. Demonstrations in support of the strike have brought hundreds of thousands of students and their supporters into the streets of Montreal and other cities. Brian Latour is a student, labour and international solidarity activist who is organizing solidarity actions in Manitoba.

RECENT RACIAL PROFILING IN TEXAS
Racial profiling against blacks remained a tool of Texas authorities nearly a century and a half after the Civil War, most vividly in the panhandle town of Tulia, where one third of the black male population was falsely arrested on fabricated drug charges pursued by a racist sheriff and drug-abusing undercover agent.
