The killing of four students on the campus of Kent State, Ohio, on May 4, 1970, during a demonstration against Nixon's expansion of the Vietnam War into Cambodia received new attention on April 23, 2012. The Obama administration's Justice Department decided not to re-open the case in spite of evidence that the guardsmen had been ordered to shoot. This reminded the public that the question of who ordered the shooting has never been resolved.

Phil continues the investigation into the arrest and trial of Victoire Ingabire, the Rwandan woman who returned from Holland to run for the office of Rwandan president, only to end up in a Rwandan jail. This presidential candidate is now on trial in Kigali, where she has dismissed her lawyer as a protest against the court and refused to participate further.
Later in the program, Rick Rozoff of Stop NATO explains NATOâs endgame in installing a missile âshieldâ in Poland and Romania as a means of realizing Ronald Reaganâs dream of "a star wars missile defence.â In response to this escalation of the arms race, Russia has described its strategic possibilities. Rozoff discusses NATO options for its conference in Chicago on May 20, at which there will be large anti-war protests.

There are about 35,000 people living with Down Syndrome in Canada. As a diverse nation, we claim to include people of all cultures, ethnicities, and intellectual and physical abilities.
But the data we see from prenatal screening and diagnosis outcomes donât seem to reflect this. According to research conducted by Dr. Brain Skotko, an estimated 92% of women in the US who are prenatally diagnosed with a fetus with Down Syndrome choose to terminate the pregnancy. Between 1989 - 2005, there was a 49% decrease between the expected and observed rates of infants born with Down Syndrome.
Why is this so? Is it based on underlying societal judgments and expectations, telling us what type of people we should value? Or is it simply due to insufficient information and resources provided to parents at the time of decision-making? These trends not only affect those already living with Down Syndrome, but have implications for the future of our âdiverseâ Canadian society.
On this show, we discuss important aspects of prenatal screening and diagnosis with Dr. Ashleigh Molloy, the President of the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto. His promotion of inclusion and human value are important messages that should be heard by all.
