Anti-Semitism vs. Opposition to Zionism

"In October, ABC7 featured a news report "focused on a major Jewish organization expressing concerns about the presence of anti-Semitic signs and some disturbing statements made at Occupy protest events in Chicago and elsewhere." We argue that this was, in fact, a disingenuous claim aimed at discrediting the Occupy/Decolonize movement and marginalizing the struggle for Palestinian self determination, as well distracting attention from the core demands for economic justice. Wielding charges of anti-Semitism has been a particularly common tactic used against leftist movements, particularly the Palestine Solidarity Movement--with the intention of silencing activists and isolating that liberation struggle from other struggles for liberation.
At this workshop, we will spend a little bit of time explaining how anti-Semitism has functioned historically and its relationship to Zionism, racism and white supremacy. We will define anti-Jewish oppression/anti-Semitism and discuss how to differentiate between real anti-Jewish sentiment, and just criticism of the state of Israel or the ideology of Zionism. Within this conversation we will examine some instances when anti-Jewish sentiment/anti-Semitism has been privileged over all other forms of oppression/racism for political ends, as well as engage with the specific material consequences of different forms of oppression/racism including anti-Semitism and anti-Arab/anti-Muslim racism.
Finally, we will explore ways in which to recognize and confront the misuse of allegations of anti-semitism, as well as how to confront real anti-Jewish sentiment when it occurs."

YES! Just in time for the xtian Easter NecroPorn Season comes my PAIN!!!! Show from 1996! This was BSTF #68, done back when I was young and fresh and had that fire in the belly that now has turned into mere gas. At the time I did this show, I was working a one-month stint as a dominatrix, so I had some invaluable perspective on pain--besides, personally speaking, sometimes pain is the only sensation that I CAN feel, so it can be a source of comfort. So I'm sure you'll get some comfort out of this--along with some music that is so fucking cool it surprised even ME when I reviewed the show!
You'll hear Ed Sanders's song "Priestess," some rare *a capella* Oingo Boingo, Tom Lehrer's "Masochism Tango," Zoogz Rift, the 9 Unknown Men, the Ramones, and Frank Zappa among other things like odd novelty 45s, a Betty Boop cartoon, Tura Satana's philosophy of violence from FPKK, Clive Barker on Cenobites, a medical audiocassette called "Gay Bowel Disorders" from 1982--and the creepiest xtian masochist song ever, "I Should Have Been Crucified," mixed with some deliciously gory pre-Mel Gibson xtian scourging porn delivered by some lipsmacking Southern preacher who no doubt right then had the only stiffy he'd had in years. *Eesh.*
You'll like this one. Hell, even *I* liked this one!

FBI Informants In Activist Groups - The Eric McDavid Story

Eric was arrested (along with Zachary Jenson and Lauren Weiner) on January 13, 2006, as part of the government's ongoing Green Scare campaign. All three were charged with "Conspiracy to damage and destroy property by fire and an explosive." His arrest was the direct result of a government informant - known only as "Anna" - who spent a year and a half drawing him in and working with the FBI to fabricate a crime and implicate Eric in it. Anna was paid over $65,000 for her work with the FBI. Eric was imprisoned for what amounts to thought-crime - no actions were ever carried out, and Eric was charged with a single count of "conspiracy" - a powerful legal tool often used by the state to crush dissent.
The tour consists of a workshop and musical performance. First, friends of Eric will be presenting information about his case, which serves as a lens through which to study the basic concepts of entrapment, the use of informants, and government repression in general. Unfortunately, the use of these tools by the state is becoming more and more prevalent, and it's imperative that people understand how they work.

The NY Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) rallied at SLS Jet Garage in Long Island City, Queens, who has a practice of not allowing drivers to pay lease in advance for their shifts, and then charging those same drivers as much as $25 per day for not paying in advance, adding up to more than $9,000 a year. NYTWA has been targeting SLS Jet for its current Stop the Greed, Lower the Lease campaign. We will also discuss the NTWA's, as new chartered union with the AFL-CIO, which will be celebrated at an upcoming reception with AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka in NYC. The new National Taxi Workers Alliance, the 57th chartered union of the AFL-CIO, is a watershed moment in U.S. Labor History. This is the first new charter for non-traditional workers in over 60 years & the first for independent contractors.

Representatives from the Muslim community & civil liberties advocates came to Police Plaza to decry the NYPD Intelligence Division's blanket surveillance of a community based on religion and race, and to condemn new revelations about surveillance of community-based advocacy groups. Recent documents unearthed reveal that the NYPD surveilled dozens of community organizations, over the last decade. One document reveals that an undercover NYPD officer traveled to New Orleans to attend the People's Summit, a gathering of groups organized around their shared opposition to U.S. economic and trade policies. The undercover effort entailed groups opposed to U.S. immigration policy, labor laws & racial profiling. The new revelations heighten and broaden the serious questions that have yet to be answered by the NYPD and elected officials surrounding it's Muslim surveillance program accusing Police Commissioner Kelly of overstepping his authority with surveillance tactics that critics claim violate the U.S. Constitution
